Bring a small, realistic demonstration scenario
Prepare synthetic information for an illustrative contractor: a few users, a managed endpoint, an identity service, an approved file location, and one external provider. State whether the example concerns FCI or CUI and identify the assessment pathway being discussed. Avoid entering actual controlled information or sensitive architecture into an unapproved demonstration. Ask the presenter to use this scenario throughout the session instead of switching to unrelated polished screens. This creates a common basis for evaluating workflow. CMMC Pulsar public product materials provide a starting list of capabilities to inspect, while current plan terms and actual behavior need confirmation.
Exercise scope and diagram correction
Enter the example environment and ask where assets, providers, and boundaries are recorded. Inspect the resulting diagram or architecture draft, then deliberately correct one assumption and add a missing backup dependency. Check whether the change is understandable in the relevant scope records and exported view. Ask how users distinguish a suggestion from an approved design. The goal is to see the human review process operating, not to treat generated architecture as a live network scan. Compare the scope categories with 32 CFR 170.19 and confirm the team can document the rationale for a classification.
Trace one requirement from gap to evidence
Choose an applicable requirement and show the implementation statement, assigned owner, current readiness state, and supporting artifact reference. Introduce a missing fact and ask how the workflow keeps the claim from being mistaken for verified implementation. Then add appropriate synthetic evidence and review the mapping. Can the user tell what the artifact demonstrates and which objective still needs an interview or test? NIST SP 800-171A is useful for framing those questions. A progress percentage can be convenient, but it should not conceal the implementation details and evidence on which a claim depends.
Inspect the documentation and export result
Generate a representative SSP or documentation packet from the example if that feature is included in the plan. Check whether the output preserves scope, implementation statements, ownership, diagrams, and evidence context where represented. Edit a factual error and verify which version appears in the next export. Ask how the organization retrieves its work when changing plans or ending service. NIST requirement 3.12.4 concerns the information conveyed by the SSP, so evaluate content and maintainability rather than page count. A polished cover cannot compensate for an incorrect boundary or an unsupported implementation statement.
Ask explicit information-handling and support questions
Request current written information about approved data types, access, retention, deletion, exports, support access, and any AI processing relevant to the intended deployment. Ask what is included in the proposed plan and which features or services require separate terms. These are evaluation questions, not assertions that CMMC Pulsar has a particular security authorization or product limitation. Review the answers with the responsible security and contracting personnel before entering sensitive records. If hands-on support from Federal Bid Partners is proposed, identify the actual deliverables, provider coordination, technical responsibilities, and review boundaries in a clear statement of work.
Finish with an evidence-based purchase decision
Record which exercises were completed, which relied on a presenter explanation, and which need follow-up verification. Compare the results with the requirements of your team, available staff time, and existing recordkeeping process. Give unresolved items an owner rather than filling the gaps with assumptions. Distinguish software readiness tasks, advisory work, technical implementation, and the required independent assessment where applicable. The useful outcome of the demo is confidence about how your team will maintain accurate preparation records. No demonstration, subscription, or generated export by itself establishes official CMMC status.
