Current implementation context. The Department suspended Phase II in July 2026 and says implementation is paused in Phase 1. This guide explains the codified model and preparation workflow. Confirm the pathway required by your actual procurement. Read the current policy briefing.

Readiness is preparation work

Readiness services can help interpret requirements, organize scope, identify gaps, improve documentation, and prepare evidence. Software can support a consistent workflow. These activities can be useful before an assessment and during continuing compliance, but purchasing them does not confer CMMC status.

Assessment authority follows the required pathway

Level 1 uses an organization self-assessment. Level 2 follows the self or C3PAO pathway required for the procurement. Level 3 involves DCMA DIBCAC. If Level 2 certification assessment is required, verify the assessment organization through the official CMMC ecosystem resources and confirm the assessment scope and contract terms directly.

Define the deliverables before hiring

Ask what is included in the engagement: scope review, implementation support, SSP development, evidence organization, gap validation, or assessment coordination. Identify which systems the provider will configure, what your team must do, and whether independent assessment fees are separate. A clear statement of work makes comparison more useful than a promise of a certificate.

Use reviews in context

Client feedback can help evaluate communication and service experience. It does not establish assessor authorization, a particular client CMMC status, or the security of your own environment. Review the service scope and assessment requirements alongside testimonials when choosing a provider.

Put the work in a usable structure. CMMC Pulsar can help organize scope, controls, evidence, and documentation. Federal Bid Partners can help define a readiness engagement suited to the environment and required pathway.
