The scenario
An illustrative subcontractor receives a request for a CMMC certificate while it is still preparing its environment. It has a consultant-produced readiness packet and wants to send that document as proof of status.
The discussion
Ask what level, assessment type, status, system scope, and timing the prime requires. A readiness packet is not automatically an official Certificate of CMMC Status. Level 1 follows the self-assessment pathway, while certification assessment pathways involve the specified assessor. State the actual position accurately and use the authorized official records where appropriate.
Questions for the team
What does the subcontract require? Is our relevant status current? Does the requested system match our assessed scope? What evidence is appropriate to share and through which protected channel? Avoid attaching detailed architecture or security records to an ordinary public intake form.
