List the services actually consumed
Identify which services administer systems, store information, manage backups, monitor security, or provide identity and access. A provider may supply multiple offerings with different responsibilities and security properties. Evaluate the offering you use and how it is configured, rather than applying a company-level marketing claim to every service.
Create a responsibility matrix
For each relevant requirement, identify the contractor action, the provider action, and the evidence needed from each party. Include notification expectations, configuration ownership, escalation routes, and changes to subcontracted services. Document the relationship in the SSP and the provider service description and customer responsibility matrix where required.
Review cloud requirements for CUI
When a cloud service processes, stores, or transmits CUI, the relevant CMMC and DFARS provisions include specific FedRAMP Moderate authorization or equivalency conditions. Review those provisions and applicable government guidance with your security and contracting teams. A generic statement that a provider is secure is not a substitute for validating the offering and configuration.
Test access to evidence and support
Ask how the provider will assist during assessment, deliver evidence, explain configuration, and support incident responsibilities. Confirm the contract includes the access and cooperation your assessment needs. Revisit responsibilities after a service change so technical work does not become separated from the compliance record.
